An Experimental Study on the Application of Conceptual Approach Elementary School Music Education

ABSTRACT

This research is an experimental study on the development of elementary music teaching-learning materials and methods for comprehensive music education offered by the current curriculum. The aim of this study is to find ways to develop comprehensive musicianship in children based on conceptual approach. In this study the following procedures were taken; 1. a literature review on the comprehensive music education and the conceptual approach to music teaching 2. an application of new music teaching-learning materials and methods based on conceptual approach in music class for a term in the 4th grade 3. testing and evaluation of the result from the application of the new materials and methods in class. The effects of the instruction on music education were: 1. a great improvement of basic competency in music, and a transfer of learning for expressive and appreciative capacity, in children 2. and extension of creative ability, and an improvement of interest in and comprehension of music, in children 3. rediscovery of one`s own capacity for music in children. Comprehensively the conceptual approach to music teaching in this study is evaluated positively for the comprehensive music education.
