Development of a Music Learning Program for Investigation of Music Aptitude and Achivement

ABSTRACT

In order to develope a music learning program which is based on Gordon`s music aptitude theory which used the methodologies of Orff, Dalcroze, Kodaly and Laban, the correlation between music aptitude and music achivement was investigate through the use of a music learning program designed by the auther. Implementation of the music learning program involved seventy 6 year old kindergarten children in Taegu and Kyungsan. The children were instructed with the program twice a week for 30 minutes for 8 months. The results of this study are as follows. 1. The implemented program increased the children`s music aptitude scores. 2. The correlation between music aptitude and the music achivement was very high. 3. The correlation between tonal aptitude and tonal achivement was high. Also the correlation between the rhythm aptitude and rhythm achivement was high. 4. Children with high music aptitude showed high musical achivement. Also children with high rhythm aptitude exhibited a high relation between the rhythm aptitude and the rhythm achivement. 5. As children have lower music aptitude, they showed lower music achivement. Futhermore, children with low music aptitude showed no positive relationship between tonal aptitude and tonal achivement. Also children with low rhythm aptitude showed no positive relationship between the rhythm aptitude and the rhythm achivement.
