The Usage of Game in Music Instruction

ABSTRACT

The Purpose of this study is to review all the theory and practice for the usage of game in music instruction. With the theoretical background of game, the games with various materials and tools are applied to music teaching and learning. The game is an organized play that gives a joy to people. Game is required to creativity, clear discipline and logical judgement. The principle of instruction is divided to indivisualization, willing participation, socialization, purpose, and direct experience. The usage of game in instruction is indispensible so that game has all the principles of instruction. The application of game to music instruction leads to a willing participation because the students realize that music class is an enjoying and learning play. The music game is created to harmonize various musical elements with the popularity and variety of game based on traditional classical music instruction. The game in music instruction is various but in this study, it is presented couple game, board game, ladder game, and maze game. These games are used to study for music history and theory as well as music activity. To make a game for developing intellectual ability to stimulate intellectual thinking of the students is a music teacher`s work to do. It is important to make an idea a game. The music teacher should make a game which is a living artistic sense with flexible creativity, decision making and keen judgement including all of musical knowledge, after understanding and planning of student`s ability.
