ABSTRACT

Kwan Geun was a confucian scholar and educator who played a central role in establishing the Neo-Confucianism and making it settle down. This study aims to acquire relevant points in the education of music by reviewing his Li Yue thoughts and views of education. In conclusion, Kwan Geun`s Thoughts of Li-Yue based its origination and nature on the Mind-nature Theory, Practice Theories, and Mental Training Theory, through which education became a vital vehicle as Li Yue was a tool of unifying heaven and human being. Kwan Geun solidified his educational thoughts based on Neo-Confucian thoughts that he understood. Particularly, his pedagogy is significant for the present music education that individual talent and interests should be considered and the base for further learning should be strongly built with pursuing the essences.
