Development of the teacher training program for the secondary music teacher

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the study was to develop the teacher training program for the secondary music teacher not for the musician training. After analyzing and comparing the current teacher training program for the secondary music teacher between Korea and other countries such as United States of America, United Kingdom, France, and Germany, the researcher proposed the applicable music education curriculum for the secondary music teacher.The proposed music education curriculum for the secondary music teacher consisted of 4 areas: 16 credits of music education courses (foundation of music education, music education materials and methods for Western and Korean music, student teaching seminar of music education, music education technology); 34 credits of music performance(major and minor performances, accompaniment, music together, classroom composition and arrangement/conducting); 23 credits of music theory and history (music theories of Western and Korean music, music style and analysis, music histories of Western and Korean music, musicology, world music, music and culture, music dram짊pop music/practical music); and O credit of recital/thesis.
