An Improvisaion in Dalcroze Methodology

ABSTRACT

Improvisation is an important aspect of the Dalcroze approach. Through the review of the literature dealing with Dalcroze in Korea, most of them has focused on eurhythmics which is one of trilogy in Dalcroze methodology. The literature dealing with improvisation is hard to find, even if it is the ultimate aim of the Dalcrze methodology.Improvisation is valuable to the individual for self-expression and it also can provide the opportunity for experimentation with the techniques of music the student was learning in other classes as Dalcroze said.The purpose of this study was to examine the meaning of the improvisation in Dalcroze methodology, to study the characteristics and the principle of the improvisation, and to find how those characteristics and principles are adapted in classroom setting.
