Presupposition for Education of International Understanding in Music Education

ABSTRACT

This research is aimed at searching for the implementation method of international understanding education, which is being driven by UNESCO, by using music subject. For this purpose, researcher took a look at the international understanding education having been developed by UNESCO and made an analysis of the contents related to the international understanding education of a music subject and searched the implementation method of the international understanding education. The research method was carried out through the literature research and those literatures were analyzed based on the viewpoint of UNESCO-arranged meaning of the international understanding education, Kim, Hyeon-Deok's contents of the international understanding education, finlly drawing the implementation method of a music subject using precedents of several countries' education courses. The research results are as follows including the premise for implementing the international understanding education using a music subject: First, in order to implement the international understanding education in a music course, the curriculum including its purpose, contents and methods and the majority of a text require revising and complementing.Second, The character and objective of a music subject should contain the contents embracing the international understanding education mentioned in a general summary of the national education program. Third, the currently used music subject contents give a high weight on essential knowledge; however it's necessary to strike a balance between the two by giving more weight on its relative knowledge. Fourth, our country's musical pieces and foreign musical pieces should be adjusted by putting a proper weight in music, education course, and texts. Fifth, in order to implement the international understanding education using a music subject, the personnel in charge have to make an approach with a viewpoint of culture-relativity acknowledging a variety of races or nations' music culture as it is.
