ABSTRACT

The aim of this study is to figure out the differences in music listening method and attitude in the digital environment contingent upon taking special education on classic listeners. For this purpose, a questionnaire survey was carried out on classic music listening, digital sound source and its utilization to university students (N=153) who took class music related course at a University located in Seoul. Comparative analysis was made by dividing the groups into two: One is a group who took more than 1 year of special education on classic, and the other is a group who takes less than 1 year of special education on classic. The questionnaire sheet consists of questions on the important factors in music listening at 5-point scale and on digital sound source and its utilization. The group taking more than 1 year of special education pointed out the most important factor in listening to classic as the quality of sound and weighed high on music related information. And, in the purchase of sound source, they preferred CD, a tangible disc and were less sensitive in price. To the contrary, while the group taking less than 1 year of special education considered quality of sound significantly, the preferred price to their comparative group. And, when listening to music, they had relatively high degree of digital utilization. Such analysis results indicate the followings: 1) Music listening and consumption methods have been changed thanks to the change of digital environment. 2) Classic music listening methods and attitudes to music are different contingent upon taking special education. 3) It is necessary to recognize different music listening attitudes contingent upon education and to make differentiated approach in marketing method of music industry as well as music education.
