ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to investigate the current status and the Operation of elementary school music instructors in charge and to suggest the direction of future development for educating musicians with professionalism. For this purpose, we analyzed elementary school music instructors in the 17 Provincial offices of education and 177 supporting education offices nationwide Whether they qualified the advanced music courses in their college level. The 103 music teachers among the 589 elementary music teachers in Chung-nam, Chung-buk, Jeon-nam, and Jeon-buk area were surveyed. As a result, it was Found that subject-based system was operated differently from the purpose Of elementary education in Korea. Most music teachers were placed according to the authority of the school principal, reasons for school administration, and personal reasons for teachers. The result of this research revealed that it is urgent to arrange the teachers considering their specialization of the subject in the elementary school curriculum management. Furthermore this research suggests that various teacher training programs should be provided to improve the music education environment of the elementary school and to enhance the professionalism of the music curriculum.
