ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to examine the status of music education in the current integrated curriculum called ‘Pleasant life’ for 1st and 2nd graders in elementary school as well as to assess the community's perception of it. The literature review focused on the importance of music education in the early elementary school years, the development of the integrated curriculum ‘Pleasant life,’ and the curriculum's contents. A total of 9 questionnaire items centered on four main areas were created and assessed for appropriateness and validity through a ploit study and external expert advice. Researchers analyzed 1,179 questionnaire responses collected through online social networks. The results revealed that the integrated curriculum ‘Pleasant life’ did not adequately include the educational purpose and content of music educations, with a noticeable decrease in connection to the music subject after 3rd grade. This study recommends separating the music subject from ‘Pleasant life’ for better musical development in younger elementary school grades. It also advocates for increased subject time and activity content, and the promotion of an appreciation for music through a curriculum that integrates emotion and character education.
